My experience isn't a straight line through one track — it's a mix of formal coursework, two decades at one company, and a lot of self-directed learning that started well before any of it was a paying job.

  • Education: DeVry Institute of Technology, Computer Information Systems program (1995–1996, one year, not completed) — followed by nearly three decades of applied, on-the-job technical growth.
  • Career progression: Nearly 19 years at Kellett Communications Inc. (2006–present), starting as Web/Interactive Developer and advancing to Senior Developer and technical lead for the team.
  • Early career: My first paid role (Weaver & Devore Trading Ltd., 2000–2006) began in front-end retail sales before moving into web development, Internet operations, and e-commerce — the entry point into full-time development work.
  • Self-taught foundation: Programming skills developed independently starting in 1990 (Atari ST, BASIC) — running in parallel with, not separate from, the roles above; the base the rest of this experience is built on, not a job in itself.

  3. 1990s - 2000s

    Self-Taught Programmer

    Independent / Atari ST1990 – 2006

    Began programming independently on the Atari ST, starting with BASIC, alongside early static web development.

    • Learned to code by reverse-engineering a Battleship game published in a magazine, then tracked down the original author over Gopher/Usenet to obtain the language software and manual directly
    • Applied that self-taught foundation to build a full Monopoly game from scratch
    • Built static HTML websites using Photoshop and Microsoft FrontPage, later transitioning to Adobe Dreamweaver
